INTERLUMINATION

This body of work focused on the exploration of experiences termed entoptic phenomena — sensations of color and pattern generated by the visual and central nervous systems. These phenomena often occur in the absence of light during various states of consciousness or from a number of stimuli including: meditation, sensory or sleep deprivation, dehydration, repetitive motion, migraine headaches, electricity, magnetics, or mechanical pressure. There are numerous connections between entoptic phenomena and spirituality, meditation, and higher brain functions. Entoptic phenomena have been documented throughout the evolution of art (dating back to the Paleolithic era) and are truly a universal human experience.
